Magento Installation

Installing Magento is similar to installing Drupal or WordPress. Before we can install Magento we need to configure the environment in which it will run. In this case you can follow our previous post about Magento Installation Requirements.

Following steps need to follow to install magento framework.

Download Magento from http://www.magentocommerce.com.
There are two versions, a standard install, and a full install. The full installation is much larger, and includes sample data, like stores, categories, products, image, etc.
Now after downloading the latest version of Magento to computer, we need to extract it to a folder. When you open up the zip file, you’ll see a folder called magento. Just extract this file to your desktop. Rename it with ‘MyMagProj’ and now upload the folder ‘MyMagProj’ via FTP.
Once you upload the package, you can extract it through your cPanel -> File Manager. Using the same tool, please change the file permissions for the Magento files to 755.
Create a MySQL database and assign a user to it through cPanel -> MySQL Databases. Remember the database details, since you will need them during the script installation.
Now after magento package has been uploaded and database has been created access site by http://yourdomainname.com/MyMagProj. Magento install wizard will start from here.
On Magento install wizard, click on the check box next to “I agree to the above terms and conditions” and click on the [Continue] button.
Now choose the preferred Time Zone, Locale and Currency and click on the [Continue] button.
Now on Configuration page, enter the database details: Database Name, User Name and User Password. Click on the check box next to “Skip Base URL validation before next step”. And click on Continue button
Now on Admin Account page, enter the personal information and the admin login details which you want to use. You can leave the Encryption Key field empty and the script will generate one for you. And click on Continue button.
Now on this page, an encryption key will be generated for you, write down your encryption key; it will be used by Magento to encrypt passwords, credit cards and other confidential information.
Your Magento installation was successfully completed. Now you can navigate to its Frontend or Backend.
